Brozowski Earns Prestigious Weekly Golden Helmet Award

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Shane Brozowski, senior quarterback from the Castleton State College football team, has earned this week's prestigious Gold Helmet Award (Division II/III) as bestowed by the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston at the New England Football Writers Association luncheon.

Brozowski, along with University of New Hampshire wide Receiver R.J. Harris were selected as the first recipients for the 2012 college football season.

Brozowski guided Castleton to a decisive victory, 35-7 over Plymouth State, in the team's 2012 opener. The win was the first-ever over a non-conference opponent for the fledgling Spartans.

The senior completed 22-of-35 pass attempts for 400 yards and four scores for the Spartans, the fourth 400-yard, four-touchdown performance of his career. The Rensellaer, N.Y., product threw three touchdown passes in the first half for 49, 57 and seven yards to stake Castleton to a 28-7 halftime advantage.

In the second half, the senior added one more touchdown strike from 65 yards to hit the 400-yard plateau for the eighth time in his career.

Brozowski and Castleton take their 1-0 mark on the road to Endicott for a non-conference affair at 12 pm.
