Tale of Two Halves; Husson Falls to Mount Ida 30-3

Bangor, ME - Husson University Football fell to Mount Ida College Saturday 30-3, during the 2012 Husson Homecoming game. The Eagles played one of their best halves of the season in the first half, holding the Mustangs to just three points. Reece Attard put away a 25-yard field goal attempt for the Eagles' lone score.

Husson opened with a huge drive starting at the Husson 24. 15 plays and eight minutes later, the Eagles were set up with first and ten on the Ida 13. On the very next play Keezer dropped and looked for Ben Foss, but threw behind him and Azim Carter picked off the pass.

It took just over 17:30 into the game, but the Eagles got onto the scoreboard first with Attard's field goal. Attard punted to the Mustangs for 53 yards and the first bounce was misplayed by Matt Valentini and covered up by Husson's Mike Washington. Husson started the drive with first and ten on the Mount Ida 15. Keezer rushed for a loss of three and threw for ten yards on two passes, setting up Reece's three-pointer.

The Mustangs would not be outdone however, as they added a field goal of their own six minutes later. The two teams left the field for the locker rooms at haltime knotted at three.

MIC came out of the half gunning, capping off a 9-play, 65-yard drive with quarterback Scott Drosendahl completing a 12-yard pass to receiver Mike Babich for six. Bobby Hemmann's extra point was good and Mount Ida led 10-3.

Four and a half minutes later, Drosendahl added his second of the game, this time hooking up with Jordan Hyman for 14 yards, pushing the Mustang lead to 17-3. The barrage of Ida scoring in the third quarter continued just two minutes later, as Drosendahl completed to Matt Valentini for another touchdown, this one from 37 yards out.

Mount Ida would push across one more touchdown in the fourth quarter as runningback Chris McNally added four of his 151 rushing yards and a touchdown to put the Mustangs on top 30-3, the final score.

Defensively, Ernest Wiggins led Husson with nine total tackles, two of which were solo. Wiggins also had a half sack for a loss of five one of his tackles was for a loss of six.

Attard also had a day for the Eagles, scoring the lone field goal and punting eight times for an average of almost 37 per-punt. Reece also had a punt for 53 yards and tacked two within the Ida 20 yard line.

The Eagles hit the road next week, playing at Norwich in Northfield, Vermont at 1:30pm. Home games for the Cadets are always a spectacle and for those of you who can't make it, live video can be found here.
