OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tyler Carpenter,
Castleton
(Sr, RB - Fort Edward, N.Y.)
Carpenter was a workhorse for Castleton in its first-ever
victory over SUNY-Maritime on Saturday. The senior accounted for
four of the team's five touchdowns and over 130 all-purpose yards
in the 35-16 win. Carpenter rushed 16 times, for 69 yards and three
touchdowns while also making eight catches for 65 yards and one
score. In total, 11 of his 24 touches in the game were for first
downs or touchdowns as the Spartans improved to 2-2 on the
season.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jared Pearce,
Gallaudet
(Sr, DL - Reno, Nev.)
Pearce led all Bison defenders with nine tackles (seven solo
tackles) and two sackes for a loss of six yards and three tackles
for a loss on seven yards. Gallaudet's defense caused four
turnovers as the Bison won their home opener 35-7 over the
Apprentice School.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tony Tatum,
Gallaudet
(Sr, DB - Gardendale, Ala.)
Tatum returned a punt 75 yards in the second quarter to
spark a 20-point quarter for Gallaudet University as the Bison
rolled over Apprentice School, 35-7. Besides Tatum's skills on punt
return he also made four tackles on defense, one interception that
he returned 23 yards, and forced a fumble in the first quarter
which directly led to a touchdown for GU.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Keith Schneider,
Castleton
(Sr, LB - Benson, Vt.)
Schneider made the most of his first career start at
linebacker for Castleton in helping the team to its first-ever
victory over SUNY-Maritime while holding the Privateers to their
third-lowest point total in an ECFC contest ever. He finished with
seven tackles, two for a loss, and personally ended three Maritime
drives. In the first quarter, he knocked down a third-down pass to
force a punt. In the second quarter, on a 4th and goal from the
one-yard line, he dropped Maritime's running back for a one-yard
loss to give Castleton the ball. Schneider also added a fourth
quarter interception.
