Castleton Falls to Endicott on the Road

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott College forced five turnovers and shutout Castleton State College for the final 53 minutes of the contest en route to a lopsided 66-14 win in non-conference football action Saturday at Endicott Stadium.

Endicott improves to 2-0, while Castleton evens its record at 1-1.

Endicott's Jason Silva (Palatine, Ill.) intercepted Shane Brozowski's (Rensselaer, N.Y.) first pass attempt of the game, which led to a 17-yard Drew Frenette (New Bedford, Mass.) touchdown pass to Mike Murphy (Chelmsford, Mass.).

Brozowski righted the ship on the ensuing drive, marching the Spartans 63 yards on 11 plays for a touchdown, finishing with a 10-yard strike to Denny Wilhelm (Gelns Falls, N.Y.). After recovering a fumble on the kick-off, Castleton set up shop on the Endicott 38 yard line. Seven plays later Brozowski found Brandon Boyle (Springfield, Vt.) in the end zone from five yards out for the 14-7 lead.

The momentum was short-lived, however, as Endicott reeled off the next 59-straight points to put the game on ice.

A big kick-return by Mike Wheeler (Hanover, Mass.) was negated by a holding call on the next Gull drive, but the senior running back took it all back on the first play from scrimmage, racing 90 yards to pay-dirt. Another interception led to Wheeler's second rushing touchdown of the game, this time from a yard out and Endicott never looked back.

Brozowski finished 25-for-44 on the game with two touchdowns and a career-high five interceptions. Tyler Carpenter (Fort Edward, N.Y.) rushed 10 times for 41 yards, while Boyle and Kevin Alberque (Rdigefield Park, N.J.) led the receivers with five catches each for 48 and 45 yards respectively.

Frenette was a tidy 12-for-20 for 204 yards and four touchdowns, while wheeler racked up 154 yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries to lead the Gull offense.

Todd Carr (Ticonderoga, N.Y.) and Mick Wong (Hartford, Vt.) each registered nine tackles to lead the Spartan defense.

Silva finished with two interceptions and six tackles to pace the Gulls.

Castleton returns home to Spartan Stadium next weekend to face RPI at 1 pm.
