Four ECFC teams earned season opening wins, all of which came at home this past weekend.
A 27-yard field goal completion by junior kicker Patrick Wilson with zero seconds left on the clock in the fourth quarter lifted Norwich University over Western New England University 26-24 in the season opener for both teams at Sabine Field on Saturday afternoon.
Shane Brozowski threw for 400 yards and four touchdowns for the fourth time in his career, leading Castleton State College to a 35-7 win over Plymouth State University in non-conference football action on Saturday afternoon at Spartan Stadium. The win was the first for Castleton over a non-conference opponent in its brief history and came in front of nearly 3,000 fans on military appreciation day.
A season opening win eluded the Gallaudet University football program for a fifth straight year as the Bison were shut out, 15-0, on the road Saturday against Otterbein University before a crowd of 3,673 at Memorial Stadium.
Husson University football fell to Hartwick College 55-14 Saturday in both teams season openers. The Eagles were outmatched in the first half and were unable to make up the deficit. The Eagles managed two impressive second half touch downs by way of quarterback Kash Keezer and wide receiver Ben Foss.
On Friday night, Mount Ida defeated UMass.-Dartmouth 24-21 while Becker took advantage of four Fitchburg State turnovers to earn a 13-3 victory. Anna Maria was downed by host Worcester State 56-10.
