Bangor, ME - The Husson University community is in mourning following the death of sophomore Stephen Colvin on Tuesday, February 4, 2014. Colvin was in a fatal skiing accident where he lost control and struck several trees off the black diamond Hayburner trail at Sugarloaf Mountain Resort in Carrabassett Valley, Maine.
Colvin, a 21-year-old transfer to Husson, was a member of the football team. He appeared in eight games in his first year with the Eagles as a linebacker, registering 12 solo tackles and two sacks. Colvin was from Hoosick Falls, New York, and was studying environmental science.
"The Husson football team is deeply saddened by Steve's passing. Steve's attitude, caring spirit, determination, and acceptance of all people will be greatly missed by everyone at Husson," said head football coach Gabby Price. "Our prayers and condolences extend out to Steve's parents, Melissa and Craig, and his relatives, extended family, and friends. Steve deeply loved his family. We will continue on with Steve's quest to be the best we can be."
Dr. Robert Clark, Husson University's President, encouraged students to reach out for help in light of this tragic event, saying in a Tuesday statement, "If you are experiencing emotional challenges as a result of Stephen's passing, we encourage you to contact Husson University's Counseling Services Center (CSC). The CSC provides free, confidential services to all Husson and NESCom students. Counselors are there to provide an objective and supportive environment. In addition, students, who feel they need spiritual counseling are welcome to contact Chaplain Sarah Pringle-Lewis. Her office is open to anyone looking for support."
A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, February 7, for those wishing to honor and pay tribute to Colvin's life. The service will take place at 12 PM in the Lower Campus Center.
