NEWTON, Mass. – Four members of the reigning Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) champion Mount Ida Mustang football team have been tabbed as Preseason All Americans by the United States of America Football Network (USAFBN).
Senior wide receiver Jordan Hyman (Middletown, Conn.) and senior defensive lineman Jon Proto (North Haven, Conn.) were picked as members of the Second Team, while senior tight end Mike Babich (Franklin Square, N.Y.) was a Fourth Team selection and junior running back Chris McNally (Bourne, Mass.) was tabbed as an Honorable Mention.
Hyman was the team leader in all receiving statistical categories last season, catching 50 passes and totaling 963 yards. He averaged 87.5 yards per game and scored 12 touchdowns, the second most scores for a Mount Ida receiver in a season in program history.
Proto played all eleven games on the defensive line for the Mustangs and racked up 26 tackles, 3.5 of them for a loss of yardage. Proto also forced and recovered a fumble and helped on special teams by blocking a kick.
Babich hauled in three touchdowns last season as a tight end, catching seven balls and racking up just under 100 receiving yards, while McNally was the team's top rusher, racking up 1230 yards and scoring four touchdowns. His 1230 yards and 232 attempts were both fourth most in Mount Ida single-season history.
USA Football Network All-American selections were contributed by panels of Head Coaches, Sports Information Directors, national, regional and local broadcast & print media, American Football Coaches Association, Lindy's Sports, regional football writers' associations, professional football franchise scouts and certified players' agents as well as the staff of USA Football Network, Inc.
The Mustangs begin their 2013 campaign on Friday, September 6th when they travel to UMass Dartmouth for a 7:00 pm game.
