OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Robert Small, Anna Maria
(Sr, RB - Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.)
Small amassed 255 all-purpose yards and 5 touchdowns for Anna Maria College in the AMCATS 55-49 stunning victory over Maine Maritime College on Saturday afternoon. Small rushed for 240 yards on 23 carries and four TD's, and caught one TD pass of 15 yards. His first TD run covered 80 yards from scrimmage to cut the deficit to 42-26 just before halftime. Small scored in the third quarter on a run of 32-yards and had a pair of 3-yard scoring plunges in the fourth stanza to set up the AMCATS final score. Small set three school records on this historic afternoon. His 30 points on the day crushed the previous record of 18 while his four rushing TD's and five TD's scores were also new markers for Anna Maria.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Nicholas Elstad, Gallaudet
(Sr, DB - Colorado Springs, Colo.)
Elstad had a hand in three of Gallaudet's six turnovers the Bison defense caused in their home opening 38-14 victory over the Apprentice School last Saturday. Elstad made two interceptions and recovered a fumble and returned it 44 yards. Two of his turnovers turned into 10 points for the Bison as they won their second consecutive home opener. Elstad, the senior co-captain, also made four tackles in the secondary for the Bison.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Chase Magsig, Gallaudet
(So, K - Hudsonville, Mich.)
Magsig had a perfect day kicking for Gallaudet in last Saturday's 38-14 home opener over Apprentice School as the sophomore kicker made 5-of-5 point after attempts and nailed a 28-yard field goal in the fourth quarter. He also booted three punts for 90 yards (with a long of 33 yards). He also had seven kick-off attempts that traveled 350 yards (50 yards per kick average) in the win. In addition, he made two tackles on special teams for the Bison.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Francis Gannon, Maritime (N.Y.)
(Fr, DB - Pearl River, N.Y.)
Gannon recorded two interceptions, returning them a combined 41 yards for the Privateers on Thursday night. Both interceptions came with Mass. Maritime threatening to score in the red zone (the first at the five-yard line and the second at the one-yard line). He also had six tackles, including one for a loss of two yards, and one bass break-up.
