Husson Holds Off Becker Fourth Quarter Surge; Win 19-18

Bangor, ME - Husson football improved to 3-0 in Eastern Collegiate Football Conference play Saturday with a thrilling win at the Winkin Complex. Husson scored 13 unanswered points in the first quarter matched and bested by Becker's 18 fourth-quarter points to set up the winning drive for the Eagles at home.

"It was a great college football game," head coach Gabby Price said after the game. "Both schools should be proud of their players, and it came down to us making one more play."

Husson took the opening kickoff and marched downfield on their first drive of the game starting at their own 45-yard line. Seccareccia handed off to Byron Jackson five times on the opening drive for a total of 12 yards, while Seccareccia ran three times for 42 yards and the game's first score, the longest of which for 38.

The Eagles forced Becker to punt on the next drive and took over again on their own 20 after a fair catch by Dom Mowrer. Husson marched 80 yards on 14 plays in over six minutes to put their second touchdown on the board. Byron Jackson punched in the score from seven yards out to make 13-0 after the missed extra point.

The remaining action in the first half consisted mainly of punts and turnovers on downs as the two teams entered the locker room at the half with the score 13-0.

Things remained scoreless all the way into the fourth quarter, with Becker finally getting onto the board at the 12:42 mark. Robert Baker hooked up with Shaun Llewellyn for four yards and a missed extra point to make it 13-6

Later in the fourth the Hawks' Josh Lawrence recovered a Seccareccia fumble at the Husson 44 which led to a Baker pass to Brandon Mulling for 31 yards and Becker's second TD. The Hawks went for two after the score but failed, keeping the game at 13-12 in favor of Husson.

Reece Attard came in to punt on Husson's next drive and had his kick blocked in the endzone. Romario Vincent covered the loose ball for the second Becker touchdown to make it 13-12. After penalties on both sides of the ball the Hawks tried for two for a third time and failed to get into the endzone.

Husson took over with 4:03 left in the game and proceeded to mount their game-winning drive. The Eagles managed 31 yards on their first eight plays of the drive and were faced with a fourth and three with just over a minute left. Seccareccia dropped back and found Ryan Stroud who juke his defender and was wide open at the goal line for the game-winning touchdown.

Husson recorded the second most sacks in a game in program history on the day, taking down Becker quarterbacks eight total times for losses of 50 yards. The Eagles also totaled 13 tackles for losses of 66 overall yards. Ernest Wiggins led the defensive charge for Husson, totaling 12 tackles with two sacks.

The Eagles will be on the road next weekend on the 26th at Gallaudet while Becker plays host to Mt. Ida.
