INDIANAPOLIS – Gallaudet University football head coach Chuck Goldstein presented Wednesday at the 2014 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) National Convention in Indianapolis, Ind., at the Indiana Convention Center.
Goldstein's presentation "Building a Successful Program: The Gallaudet Way" focused on building a football program from the ground up, doing it quickly. He discussed the importance of developing young people, learning from mistakes, evaluation and reflecting each year and developing a simple program philosophy. The hour-long presentation attracted over 200 coaches from various coaching backgrounds.
"This was a great honor to present at the AFCA National Convention and to discuss our story at Gallaudet," said Goldstein, who completed his fourth season as the head coach, fifth with the program. "I want to thank the AFCA for inviting me and for my football staff who has helped me build our program along the way during my time at GU."
Goldstein, the 2013 Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) Coach of the Year, led Gallaudet to its first NCAA tournament appearance and ECFC championship last season as the Buff and Blue tied a school record with nine wins. GU (9-2) set a program record with a nine-game winning streak to begin the season, a win streak that stretched 11 games dating back to the 2012 season. The Bison strong start helped them garner unprecedented national media exposure as Gallaudet was featured on CBS Evening News, ESPN SportsCenter, Comcast SportsNet, all five local D.C. television stations, Associated Press, Washington Post, USA Today, National Public Radio and many other printed and online publications and blogs.
