OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Al Georgio, Norwich
(Jr, RB - West Greenwich, R.I.)
The junior running back exploded for 238 total yards of offense and had a hand in three Norwich touchdowns as the Cadets posted their first win of the season, a 31-14 defeat of WPI. Georgio compiled 193 yards on the ground on 27 carries, good for 7.1 yards per carry, and two touchdowns. In addition, Georgio had four receptions for 45 yards, including a four-yard touchdown reception.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tyler Snider, Gallaudet
(Jr, DL - Thornville, Ohio)
Snider had a hand in the turning point of Gallaudet's 37-13 victory over Rochester (N.Y.) University as the junior defensive end picked up a fumble near midfield and returned it 45 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. The score broke open a close game as the Bison (3-0) are off to their best start in program history, as a NCAA Division III program, since 1987. Snider had three tackles, one tackle for a loss of one yard and one quarterback hurry in the win.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
John Arny, Maritime (N.Y.)
(Fr, P - Metuchen, N.J.)
Freshman punter John Arny showed off his impressive leg with a pair of punts on Saturday afternoon against Kings Point as he averaged 53 yards per punt. On his first punt of the game, Arny sent the ball away for 48 yards to the opponents 20-yard line on the last play of the third quarter. The rookie followed that with another superb punt against a steady wind from the southeast that went for 58 yards that pinned Kings Point back at its own 11-yard line. With his pair of punts on Saturday, Arny has now raised his average yards-per-punt to 45.7 on the year.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Soren Pelz-Walsh, Castleton
(Fr, WR - Brattleboro, Vt.)
In just his second career game, Pelz-Walsh was a revelation for the Spartans, leading the team with 11 catches for 147 yards. The freshman came up big when his team needed it most, with five of his catches resulting in first downs.
