Three ECFC Student-Athletes Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

Castleton junior Kevin Alberque along with Gallaudet seniors Nicholas Elstad and Adham Talaat were named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Capital One Academic All-District Football Teams for their performance on the field and in the classroom.

The CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their excellence on the field and in the classroom. The District Teams are divided into eight geographic locations and further delineated by Division I, II & III.  All-district selections advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this fall.

This marks Alberque's second straight selection to the All-District Team. The junior wide receiver leads the Spartans in catches, (41) and receiving yards (515) while ranking third in the conference in both categories. Alberque is also the team's primary returner, ranking third in the ECFC with 155.6 all-purpose yards per game and second in kickoff return average (21.6). Off the field, Alberque is a Global Studies major and owns a 3.67 GPA. He is also a member of the ROTC program at Castleton.

Elstad has been a consistent playmaker on defense for the Bison. The senior defensive back leads the team in interceptions (three), fumble recoveries (three), pass breakups (four) and pass deflections (seven). He also ranks fifth on the team in tackles with 31 tackles (23 solo).

Talaat has been a force on defense this year. Teams consistently run away from Talaat's side but he has still racked up 30 tackles (18 solo) including 8.5 tackles for a loss, which rank him third on the team, four sacks, which rank second on the team, and four quarterback hits.

This is the second time Talaat was named to the All-District first team, previously being selected last season. He was later named to the CoSIDA Academic All-American Division III football second team.

To be eligible for CoSIDA Academic honors, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. District Two is comprised of Connecticut, Washington, D.C., Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and West Virginia.
