Gallaudet's Adham Talaat named to the 2013 D3football.com All-America honorable mention defense

SALEM, Va. – Gallaudet University senior defensive end Adham Talaat (Springfield, Va.) was named to the 2013 D3football.com All-America team as an honorable mention selection on defense. Talaat is the second Bison ever to be named to a D3football.com All-America team. This is the 15th All-America team that D3football.com has released since 1999. The official announcement came prior to the 2013 Division III football national championship game here in Salem, Va., where No. 5 Wisconsin-Whitewater defeated top-ranked Mount Union, 52-14.

Talaat is the only representative from the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) on one of the four 2013 D3football.com All-America teams (first, second, third and honorable mention).

"We are happy and excited for Adham on being named to the 2013 D3football.com All-America team. This is a great honor for him and for the Gallaudet University football program," said coach Chuck Goldstein. "Adham had a stellar career for the Bison and the recognition he has earned over the course of this season was well deserved. We are excited for him as he prepares for the next phase of his football career."

Talaat, a NFL prospect, graduates as the most decorated Bison in football program history. In the past month he was named a top 10 finalist for the Gagliardi Trophy, given to the most outstanding football player in NCAA Division III and a finalist for the Cliff Harris Award, awarded to the top small college defensive player each year. He was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America first-team, the first Bison to receive the first-team honor, he also became the first to earn Academic All-America recognition two years in a row. In addition, Talaat received All-ECFC defense first-team honors and was named to the D3football.com All-East region second team defense.

Although Talaat was double and triple-teamed in every game, he finished the season with 46 total tackles (26 solo) averaging 4.2 tackles per game. Talaat also recorded five sacks for loss of 42 yards and had one fumble recovery.

Talaat played a great role on the Gallaudet University football team that became the first men's team to make an NCAA tournament appearance. Talaat helped the Bison win their first ECFC championship as they tied a school record nine wins in a season and set two new records with an 11-game winning streak dating back to the 2012 season and 11 games played in a single season.

Gallaudet defensive back Tony Tatum, '12 became the first Bison to be honored on a D3football.com All-America team in 2012 as he was picked to the fourth team defense. Gallaudet Hall of Famer Shannon Simon, '92, is the only Bison to be named to an American Coaches Football Association (AFCA) Division III All-America team as he was picked to the 1987 first team at offensive line.
