Cambridge, Mass. – Robert Small (Sleepy Hollow, NY) senior running back from the Anna Maria College football team, has earned this week's prestigious Gold Helmet Award (Division II/III) as bestowed by the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston at the New England Football Writers Association luncheon.
Small, along with Maine senior quarterback Marcus Wasilewski were selected as the third week recipients for the 2013 college football season.
Small helped lead the AMCATS to a 55-49 stunning come-from-behind victory over non-conference opponent Maine Maritime. The fourth year player posted 255 all-purpose yards while crossing the goal line on five different occasions. His stat line would read: 240 yards rushing with four touchdowns, 15-yard receiving touchdown.
His historic day included an 80-yard and 32-yard touchdown runs, plus a pair of three yard scampers to the end zone. Small's 30 individual points on the day crushed the previous record of 18 while his four rushing TD's and five TD's scores were also new markers for Anna Maria.
Small is the first AMCAT to earn the esteemed award.
