WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University football team's historical 9-0 season has drawn national and local media attention. After WUSA 9 (local CBS affiliate) did a segment earlier in the week, CBS national news paid a visit to Gallaudet last Thursday, Nov. 7, to learn more about the 2013 Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) champs.
The segment appeared on Sunday's CBS Evening News (Sunday, Nov. 10)
CBS News correspondent Jeff Pegues and his team spent the day at Gallaudet covering all the daily activities of the football team. Pegues conducted interviews with senior defensive back Nicholas Elstad (Colorado Springs, Colo.), sophomore quarterback Todd Bonheyo (Frederick, Md.) and senior Adham Talaat (Springfield, Va.) discussing how the program is different this year and what changed to drive the Bison to an undefeated season.
Pegues also had a one-on-one interview with head coach Chuck Goldstein about how he and his staff have overcome challenges and obstacles faced this season and what it is like coaching the only deaf collegiate football team in the world. Pegues also got to return a kick during football practice that day while his cameraman was gathering on-field footage.
The appearance joins an on-going list of national and local media attention the Bison football team has received over the past couple weeks. The Bison have been featured by the Associated Press, The Washington Post, Yahoo! Sports, 106.7 The Fan, ESPN.com and SportsIllustrated.com amongst others.
