WASHINGTON – The NCAA has released the first Division III Regional Rankings for football and Gallaudet University is ranked third in the East region out of 10 available positions. This is the first time that the Bison have been ranked in the Division III Regional Rankings.
Gallaudet (8-0) stayed perfect on the year after an incredible win, defeating Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) foe Becker College, 40-34, in the final seconds of the game last Saturday. The Bison (5-0 ECFC) host conference opponent Anna Maria College (2-6, 1-4 ECFC) in its final home regular-season game where the Bison look to continue their 10-game winning streak.
Hobart College (7-0) is No. 1 in the East region region after beating Union College, 41-20. Ithaca College (7-1) holds the second spot after shutting out Frostburg State, 23-0. Gallaudet comes in at the third spot and is trailed by Rowan University (6-2), who narrowly defeated SUNY Cortland, 10-9, last weekend. Lebanon Valley (7-1) and Framingham State (7-1) are fifth and sixth, respectively. Alfred University (6-2) is No. 7 while St. John Fisher College (6-2) holds the No. 8 position. Salve Regina University (6-2) is ranked No. 9 while St. Lawrence University (6-2) rounds out the top 10.
Inclusion in the regional rankings does not gurantee a playoff spot. There are 24 automatic bids in the 32-team field reserved for teams that win their conference. The remaining eight bids are from Pool B and Pool C at-large bids. In the playoffs there are four brackets of eight teams apiece. The brackets are set by the NCAA committee, grouping eight teams together in a roughly geographic manner.
