Keystone Poised to Build off Inaugural 2021 Season

La PLUME, Pa. - The Keystone College football program will kick off its second NCAA season on Saturday, Sept. 3, hosting Wilkes University at 1 p.m. 

  • Under head coach Justin Higgins, the Giants will welcome back a slew of returning starters as well as a talented freshmen class. 
  • This is the final year for Keystone in the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) as the Giants will be an affiliate member within the Landmark Conference, starting in Fall 2023. 

2022 Schedule

  • The Giants – in their second year of NCAA Division III competition – will host five contests this season. 
  • The 2022 campaign kicks off at home on Saturday, Sept. 3 against Wilkes at 1 p.m. The Giants then hit the road for consecutive weeks, playing at Misericordia (Sept. 10) and William Paterson (Sept. 17). 
  • Keystone returns home to host Hobart on Sept. 24 followed by Homecoming against Gallaudet on Oct. 1 at 12 p.m. KC hits the road again, playing at Alfred State (Oct. 8) and Anna Maria (Oct. 15). 
  • The Giants return to La Plume to host Castleton (Oct. 22) and Maritime (Nov. 5) before closing out the regular season at Dean on Nov. 12. 

Returners

The Giants return four all-ECFC performers from a year ago:  

  • Mujaheed Muhammad (Philadelphia, Pa./Paul Robeson) – First Team All-ECFC; Muhammad rushed for 747 and seven touchdowns during his rookie campaign.  
  • Jon Naniewicz (Greenfield Twp., Pa./Lakeland) - First Team All-ECFC 
  • Josh Moore (Clinton, Md./Wise) - Second Team All-ECFC 
  • Naniewicz & Moore anchored an offensive line and protected returning quarterback Thomas Roach, who completed 91 passes for 1,059 yards and five touchdowns. 
  • Sean Tocci (Lodi, N.J./Lodi) - Second Team All-ECFC; Tocci led the defensive unit with 58 tackles (32 solo) with four tackles for loss and one fumble recovery.  
  • In addition, Kevin Lewis (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) scored seven touchdowns, including the first four TDs in program history to begin the year. The Giants' top five receivers return back in 2022 with Chad Jones (Bear, Del./Alexis I. DuPont) (21 rec.), Jorden Cook (New Paltz, N.Y./New Paltz) (20 rec.), Javier Tazza (Burlington City, N.J./Burlington City) (20 rec.), Da'Jaun Vales (Magnolia, N.J./Sterling) (12 rec.), and Christopher Diaz (Lodi, N.J./Lodi) (11 rec.). 
  • On the defensive side, Carlos Perez (Reading, Pa./Reading)Tyshaun McClain (Jersey City, N.J./Hoboken)Sean Pettway (Ellenville, N.Y./Ellenville)Joe Manfredo (Levittown, N.Y./General Douglas MacArthur)Jamir Spencer-Smith (Burlington, N.J./Burlington City)Quentin Tibbs (New Brunswick, N.J./New Brunswick)Frankie Vega (Edison, N.J./Edison)Elijah Washington (Lawrence, N.Y./Lawrence)Dontez Crawford (Baltimore, Md./Pennsauken)Ali Mendoza (Hoboken, N.J./Hoboken)CJ Riccobono (New Hyde Park, N.Y./New Hyde Park Memorial), and Kenny Livingston (Jersey City, N.J./Snyder) all tallied 10 or more tackles in 2021. 
  • Crawford led KC with two interceptions while Perez and Vega combined for five fumble recoveries. 
  • Josue Hernandez (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) was a perfect 21-of-21 on PAT opportunities while Zac Cost (Dalton, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) had 44 punts, with three inside the 20. 
  • Keystone led the ECFC with 10 fumble recoveries in 2021.
