Anna Maria Comes Out On Top Against Mass. Maritime, 37-30

PAXTON, MA. – On Saturday, September 16th the Anna Maria College Football Team hosted the Mass. Maritime Buccaneers for Homecoming weekend. The AMCATS won the game 37-30.

Just under two minutes into the game, the Buccaneers found the end zone off a 63 yard pass from Marc Murphy to Owen Roth. The AMCATS now trailing by a touchdown returned the favor just minutes later after Ryan Russell took things into his own hands and ran the ball for a 23 yard touchdown. A field goal from Ryan Kent would tie the game up at seven an piece not even five minutes into the first quarter. The AMCATS would close out the scoring for the first quarter with a 37 yard field goal from Kent, to give the AMCATS the lead going into the second quarter. 

Leading by three after the first fifteen minutes, the AMCATS struck first in the second quarter after Russell found Mark Johnson-Morgan for a 16 yard touchdown. The AMCATS were able to lock down the Buccaneers until Late in the second quarter when Chase Dombrowski ran the ball in for a one yard touchdown to cut the AMCATS lead back down to just three. Ryan Russell didn't want to end the half on a low note and decided to send a 33 yard pass out to Johnson-Morgan for the AMCATS third touchdown of the day with just thirty seconds left to play in the first half.

After a twenty minute break, the AMCATS came firing as Justin Brown put up a 36 yard run to add to the AMCATS lead over the Buccaneers. Mass. Maritime fought hard throughout the third quarter, trying to crape their way back into the game. A touchdown and a three point field goal would cut the AMCATS lead down to seven as the third quarter wound down. 

Looking to add some insurance to their seven point lead, the AMCATS scored their fifth touchdown of the day just over two minutes into the final quarter. The Touchdown came off a ten yard run from Jamal CarigliaTyler Bulinski would go for the two point conversion but was stopped up by the Buccaneers defense. With just over a minute left to play, Mass. Maritime managed to get their fourth touchdown off a one yard run from Zach Proctor. Unable to get the extra point, the Buccaneers finished the game behind the AMCATS 37-30.
