Pioneers Best Anna Maria, 46-20

Alfred, NY - Alfred State scored a season high 46 points as they defeated the Anna Maria AMCATS 46-20 in front of a Homecoming crowd to open ECFC play. The Pioneers (4-3, 1-0 ECFC) got a big spark from their special teams notching two blocks that led to two scores.

Noah Currier led the way on offense totaling 124 yards and two touchdowns, while Nicholas Cuomo tallied 90 yards and a touchdown. Jake Palmer had 47 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Danny Browning scored after scooping up a blocked punt.

The Pioneers got on the board first just 54 seconds into the game when David Harrell blocked a punt and Browning scooped it up and ran it in from 22-yards. The AMCATS responded a few minutes later with a touchdown to tie the game at 7-7.

Jake Palmer got the second quarter started with a touchdown. He capped a seven play 22-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run. Later in the quarter, Justin Horvath and Ben Ba connected on a 10-yard touchdown pass to cap a seven play 45-yard drive.

Following halftime, Palmer extended the Alfred State lead to 26-7 with a two-yard touchdown run. The Pioneers followed with back-to-back touchdowns drives. Noah Currier tallied a 34-yard touchdown for the 33-7 lead. Then on the next Pioneers possession, it only took ASC one play to find the endzone as Nicholas Cuomo came away with a 53-yard touchdown run for the 40-7 lead.

Anna Maria would answer with a touchdown in their next possession to cut the deficit to 40-14.

In the fourth quarter, both teams scored a touchdown. Currier tallied his second touchdown of the day; this time he went 53 yards for the score. The AMCATS scored the final touchdown of the game right before time expired.

The Alfred State defense was led by Rayshawn Powell who led the way with eight tackles. David Harrell had six tackles and a blocked punt, while Rylie Van Fleet also added six tackles.
