2022 ECFC Weekly Release — Week #2

KILLINGWORTH, CONN. — The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) has released its weekly award winners for games played through Saturday, September 10.

The following student-athletes have been honored for their standout performances.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Alex Cohen (Plymouth, Mass.), Anna Maria College, Sr., QB
  • Completed 14 out of 29 passes (no INTs) for 414 yards and a program record six touchdowns
  • Rushed the ball five times for 34 yards and two scores
  • His eight touchdowns set a single-game school record
  • Guided the AMCATS to their first-ever season-opening victory (UMass Dartmouth, 63-48)

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jacob Hartman (Petersburg, W.Va.), Gallaudet University, So., LB
  • Recorded a team-high nine tackles (four solo, 1.5 TFL) and forced one fumble
  • Caught a 16-yard touchdown pass on a fake field goal attempt to give the Bison a 10-0 lead with 4:49 remaining in the first half
  • His forced fumble set up a 7-play, 45-yard touchdown drive which solidified the win over Greensboro (31-14)
  • Registered season-highs for tackles in all four categories (solo, assisted, total, TFL)

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jonathon Waterman (Sebastian, Fla.), Gallaudet University, Jr., K/P
  • Buried his lone field goal attempt (26-yards) and converted all four extra points
  • Dominated the field position battle as Greensboro's average start from punts and kickoffs were both 22 yards
  • As a punter, Waterman compiled 126 yards on four attempts (31.5 average, 35 long) while placing two inside the 20-yard line — one of which was downed on the opponent's 1-yard line
  • On kickoffs, he totaled 321 yards via six attempts (53.5 average, two touchbacks)

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Max Gomes (Delaware, N.Y.), Alfred State College, Fr., CB
  • Had an interception and a pass breakup against Rochester (N.Y.)
  • Second career interception and pass breakup
  • His play helped the Pioneers' defense hold Rochester (N.Y.) to under 100 yards passing
  • Tied for the conference lead with two interceptions on the young season

About the ECFC

The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference was formed in the spring of 2009 as an NCAA Division III single-sport football conference. The conference, named after the geographic location of the institutions began competition in the fall of 2009.

Current members are Alfred State College (Alfred, NY), Anna Maria College (Worcester, MA), Castleton University (Castleton, VT.), Dean College (Franklin, MA), Gallaudet University (Washington, D.C.), Keystone College (La Plume, PA), and Maritime College State University of New York (Throggs Neck, NY).

The mission of the conference is to:

  1. Promote intercollegiate varsity football as an integral part of the educational experience of all competitors. 
  2. Establish a conference schedule and determine a conference championship that will represent the conference as the automatic qualifier to the NCAA national tournament.
  3. Adopt sportsmanship, fair play, moral integrity, and competitive excellence as cornerstones of the conference.
