Husson Edges Anna Maria, 50-49

BANGOR, ME. – On Saturday, September 23rd the Anna Maria College Football team traveled north to Bangor, ME to take on the Husson University Eagles. The AMCATS lost the game 50-49.

The AMCATS opened up the scoring early after 51 yard pass from Ryan Russell found Deandre Wallace for the AMCATS first touchdown of the day. The Eagles would answer almost immediately scoring off an 84 yard kickoff return to tie the game up at six. The AMCATS would end up taking the lead at the end of the quarter when Ryan Kent kicked a 24 yard field goal putting the AMCATS up 9-6 after 15 minutes of play.

Husson started the second quarter strong with a touchdown just under two minutes into the quarter. Trailing behind the Eagles 13-6, Russell took back the lead for the AMCATS sending out a 13 yard pass to Eric Pino, bringing the score to 15-13 in the AMCATS favor. Both teams would go back and forth for the remainder of the first half with the AMCATS taking the lead before halftime when Uthman Ajia caught a four yard pass from Russell, resulting in the AMCATS leading over the Eagles 22-21 going into the second half of the game.

Husson opened up the second half of the game with two quick touchdowns to take back the lead over the AMCATS. Mark Johnson Morgan would get the AMCATS back on track with just five minutes left in the quarter scoring a touchdown off a 50 yard pass from Russell. Jamal Craiglia would later tie the game up at 36 a piece after a 14 yard run to close out the third quarter.

All tied up at the start of the fourth quarter, the AMCATS would end up going back and fourth with the eagles. Russell would find Wallace for two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter. The game would ultimately be decided by an extra point as the AMCATS trailed behind the Eagles by just one point resulting in a 50-49 loss.

  • Jamal Cariglia led the rushing for the AMCATS with 93 yards and 1 touchdown.

  • Ryan Kent went 1/2 on field goal attempts while also going 4/5 on extra point opportunities.
