Rochester (N.Y.) Tops Alfred State, 49-7

Rochester, NY - Late surge was not enough as ASC dropped a hard-fought matchup against the University of Rochester. Alfred State falls to 1-1 on the season.

On the defensive side of the ball, David Harrell (Brooklyn, NY) led the way with an interception and eight tackles, with five being solo. Silas Egenlauf (Spencerport, NY) also ended the night with eight tackles, while six of them being solo. Jalen White (Brooklyn, NY), Colin Hebbard (Clinton, NY), and Josh Borowicz (Highland Falls, NY) all tallied a tackle for a loss.

Offensively, Justin Horvath (Grand Island, NY) went 22-40 for 131 yards and a touchdown. Mathew Mancuso (Fresh Meadows, NY) came away with three receptions for 33 yards and a touchdown. Josh Graham (Hilton, NY) had four receptions for 33 yards and eight yards rushing.

Rylie Van Fleet (Endwell, NY) had 10 punts for 349 yards and averaged 34.9 yards per punt. His longest of the day was 42 yards.

Rochester controlled most of the game until the fourth quarter. The Pioneers got the ball on their 16-yard line with about four minutes and 30 seconds left in the game. The drive started with a seven-yard rush from Jake Palmer (Albany, NY), followed by another Palmer rush for three yards and the first down. Two plays later, Horvath found Ben Ba (Harlem, NY) for a seven-yard completion. After a five-yard rush, Horvath found Ba for another seven-yard completion. A few plays later, Horvath found Graham over the middle for 16 yards. Three plays later, Horvath threw up a jump ball in the endzone as time expired, that Mancuso came down with for the touchdown. Maxwell DeMare (Batavia, NY) put in the extra point and the Pioneers avoided the shutout.

The Pioneers will regroup before their home opener against Husson next weekend. The game will be on September 16th at noon.
