2022 ECFC Weekly Release — Week #3

KILLINGWORTH, Conn. — The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) has released its weekly award winners for games played through Saturday, September 17.

The following student-athletes have been honored for their standout performances.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Brandon Washington (Citronelle, Ala.), Gallaudet, So., SL
  • Contributed in all three phases on offense to lead the Bison to a 34-31 comeback win over UNE
  • Accumulated 304 yards of total offense (160 rushing, 84 passing, 60 receiving) and factored into four TDs
  • Caught the game-winning touchdown (20 yards) with 7:59 remaining in the contest
  • All four of his scores went for 20 yards or more (32-yard TD pass, 45-yard TD rush, 28-yard TD pass, 20-yard TD reception)

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sean Pettway (Ellenville, N.Y.), Keystone, Jr., DB
  • Tied for the team lead in tackles with 10 total (8 solo, 2.5 TFL) in Keystone's 27-21 loss to William Paterson
  • Made a 45-yard house call to give the Giants a 20-7 lead right before the half (first career score | second career interception)
  • Blocked the extra point on William Paterson's final score
  • His eight solo tackles ranked tied for second in the league on the week

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sam Jakana (Coto De Caza, Calif.), Anna Maria, So., LB
  • Had the game-changing TD in Anna Maria's thrilling 23-14 come-from-behind win against Mass. Maritime
  • Punched home a 22-yard scoop and score with 15-seconds remaining in the first half thanks to a forced fumble by Armstrong Antoine (Stratford, Conn.) to put the AMCATS within two points (14-12) 
  • Defensively, Jakana notched four tackles (2 solo, 1 TFL) from the linebacker position
  • Also had two pass breakups in the victory

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Jaylen Johnson (Dublin, Calif.), Gallaudet, Fr., WR
  • Posted career-highs for receptions (3), yards (84), and touchdowns (2) for the Bison
  • Opened the scoring with a career-long 32-yard TD reception at 5:29 of the first quarter
  • His second TD (28-yards) boosted Gallaudet's lead to 27-17 in the third (6:21)
  • Only wideout with multiple receiving touchdowns on the week

About the ECFC

The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference was formed in the spring of 2009 as an NCAA Division III single-sport football conference. The conference, named after the geographic location of the institutions began competition in the fall of 2009.

Current members are Alfred State College (Alfred, NY), Anna Maria College (Worcester, MA), Castleton University (Castleton, VT.), Dean College (Franklin, MA), Gallaudet University (Washington, D.C.), Keystone College (La Plume, PA), and Maritime College State University of New York (Throggs Neck, NY).

The mission of the conference is to:

  1. Promote intercollegiate varsity football as an integral part of the educational experience of all competitors. 
  2. Establish a conference schedule and determine a conference championship that will represent the conference as the automatic qualifier to the NCAA national tournament.
  3. Adopt sportsmanship, fair play, moral integrity, and competitive excellence as cornerstones of the conference.
