KILLINGWORTH, Conn. — Castleton junior wide receiver Caezar Williams (Round Rock, Texas) earned a spot on the 2022 D3football.com All-America Second Team as a return specialist, as announced by the organization on Friday night prior to Stagg Bowl XLIX.
Williams is the Spartans' second All-American in program history after Brandon Boyle (Springfield, Vt.), also a receiver, garnered a third team selection in 2012.
The Round Rock, Texas native had one of the best special teams campaigns across the country, finishing the regular season as one of just seven student-athletes in Division III with multiple punt return touchdowns.
Williams' pair of punt return scores were the first since the program's 2009 inception. He also ranked fifth in the nation in punt return average at the end of the regular season with nearly three times as many punt return yards as any other student-athlete in the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC), averaging 17.1 yards per return overall.
Williams was a First Team All-ECFC selection this season alongside New England Football Writers Association (NEFWA) First Team All-New England and D3football.com All-Region 1 accolades as well.
About the ECFC
The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference was formed in the spring of 2009 as an NCAA Division III single-sport football conference. The conference, named after the geographic location of the institutions began competition in the fall of 2009.
Current members are Alfred State College (Alfred, NY), Anna Maria College (Worcester, MA), Castleton University (Castleton, VT.), Dean College (Franklin, MA), Gallaudet University (Washington, D.C.), Keystone College (La Plume, PA), and Maritime College State University of New York (Throggs Neck, NY).
The mission of the conference is to:
- Promote intercollegiate varsity football as an integral part of the educational experience of all competitors.
- Establish a conference schedule and determine a conference championship that will represent the conference as the automatic qualifier to the NCAA national tournament.
- Adopt sportsmanship, fair play, moral integrity, and competitive excellence as cornerstones of the conference.
