2022 ECFC Weekly Release — Week #11

KILLINGWORTH, Conn. — The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) has released its weekly award winners for games played through Saturday, November 12.

The following student-athletes have been honored for their standout performances.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jake Palmer (Albany, N.Y.), Alfred State, Jr., RB
  • Scored a career-high four rushing touchdowns in a 48-21 win over Maritime (N.Y.)
  • Carried the ball 37 times for 226 yards (his second-most in a single game, 6.1 average)
  • Fell one rushing TD shy of tying the NCAA Division III single-game high for this season
  • Found paydirt in every quarter (1st, 9:44, 7-0) | 2nd, 7:12, 28-0 | 3rd, 2:16, 42-14, 4th, 1:32, 48-21)

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Frankie Vega (Edison, N.J.), Keystone, Sr., LB
  • Set career-highs for tackles (10) and solo stops (8) in a 45-44 OT victory against Dean
  • His stat line also included one tackle for a loss and a forced fumble (fourth career)
  • Tied for the game-high in tackles
  • Ranks tied for the league lead in forced fumbles with three

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Josue Hernandez (Middlesex, N.J.), Keystone, So., K/P
  • Buried a game-tying 22-yard field goal as time expired in the fourth quarter to force overtime versus Dean
  • His sixth and final extra point in OT proved to be the difference as Dean failed on its game-winning two-point conversion attempt
  • Finished the game with nine points (1-1 FGA, 6-6 XPA, second-most in a single game for his career)
  • Career-high six extra points made

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Max Gomes (Delaware, N.Y.), Alfred State, Fr., CB
  • Registered five tackles (two solo), two interceptions, and a pass breakup for the Pioneers
  • His first interception was snared in the end zone with Alfred State leading just 7-0 at the 5:57 mark of the first quarter
  • Gomes' second pick came at the Pioneers' 12-yard line at 11:51 of the third quarter (35-7 lead)
  • The first-year corner leads the ECFC with six interceptions (second place has four)

About the ECFC

The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference was formed in the spring of 2009 as an NCAA Division III single-sport football conference. The conference, named after the geographic location of the institutions began competition in the fall of 2009.

Current members are Alfred State College (Alfred, NY), Anna Maria College (Worcester, MA), Castleton University (Castleton, VT.), Dean College (Franklin, MA), Gallaudet University (Washington, D.C.), Keystone College (La Plume, PA), and Maritime College State University of New York (Throggs Neck, NY).

The mission of the conference is to:

  1. Promote intercollegiate varsity football as an integral part of the educational experience of all competitors. 
  2. Establish a conference schedule and determine a conference championship that will represent the conference as the automatic qualifier to the NCAA national tournament.
  3. Adopt sportsmanship, fair play, moral integrity, and competitive excellence as cornerstones of the conference.
