2022 ECFC Weekly Release — Week #8

KILLINGWORTH, Conn. — The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) has released its weekly award winners for games played through Saturday, October 22.

The following student-athletes have been honored for their standout performances.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Mozes Mooney (San Diego, Calif.), Dean, Jr., WR/QB
  • The former wideout turned quarterback produced five touchdowns to lead Dean past Alfred State, 36-35 OT
  • Completed 28 of 34 passes for 295 yards and three touchdowns (25, 18, 22 yards) in just his second career start at the position
  • Rushed for two touchdowns including a game-tying 3-yard scamper with 44-seconds remaining in regulation
  • Threw for one TD and converted a two-point conversion pass for the game-winner in OT

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Aidan Griffin (Queens, N.Y.), Maritime (N.Y.), So., DB
  • Led the Privateers with a game-high/career-high 12 tackles (4 solo, 0.5 TFL) in their 26-24 victory over Gallaudet
  • Recovered a fumble on the game's opening drive to set up Maritime's first touchdown
  • Thwarted Gallaudet's potential game-tying two-point conversion attempt at the goal line with 36-seconds remaining in the matchup
  • Paced all defensive backs in tackles on the week (second overall among all defenders)

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Damiyr Martinez (Philadelphia, Pa.), Castleton, Jr., DB
  • Returned a kickoff 89 yards to the house to aid Castleton to a 35-20 win against Keystone
  • His second career kick return TD swung the momentum in the contest back in the Spartans' favor after Keystone cut into its deficit at 21-13 at the beginning of the fourth (13:19)
  • Notched 137 yards on three kickoff returns (45.7 average)
  • Also accumulated eight tackles (5 solo) and picked off one pass to keep Castleton in the hunt for the ECFC Championship

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Brandon Lane (Valdosta, Ga.), Dean, Fr., DB
  • Filled the stat sheet in the Bulldogs' triumph over Alfred State
  • Recorded six tackles (four solo), forced and recovered one fumble, had an interception, and broke up one pass
  • The forced fumble, recovery, pick, and PBU were all career firsts
  • Tied for third on the team in tackles on the afternoon

About the ECFC

The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference was formed in the spring of 2009 as an NCAA Division III single-sport football conference. The conference, named after the geographic location of the institutions began competition in the fall of 2009.

Current members are Alfred State College (Alfred, NY), Anna Maria College (Worcester, MA), Castleton University (Castleton, VT.), Dean College (Franklin, MA), Gallaudet University (Washington, D.C.), Keystone College (La Plume, PA), and Maritime College State University of New York (Throggs Neck, NY).

The mission of the conference is to:

  1. Promote intercollegiate varsity football as an integral part of the educational experience of all competitors. 
  2. Establish a conference schedule and determine a conference championship that will represent the conference as the automatic qualifier to the NCAA national tournament.
  3. Adopt sportsmanship, fair play, moral integrity, and competitive excellence as cornerstones of the conference.
