Golden Bears Push Past AMCATS, 33-17

SPRINGFIELD, MA. – On Saturday, October 7th the Anna Maria College Football team traveled to Springfield, MA to take on the Western New England University Golden Bears. The AMCATS lost the game 33-17.

After a scoreless first quarter, Deandre Wallace would score the AMCATS first touchdown of the game off a twenty yard pass from Ryan RussellRyan Kent would secure the extra point making it a 7-0 game. Just about five minutes later, the Golden Bears would tie things up with a fourteen yard pass from Tyler Millerick. Tied up at seven a piece the next six minutes of the game would go scoreless before the Bears would secure their second touchdown of the day off a one yard run on the doorstep from Dillon Kohl. Kohl would find the end zone again just two minutes later with a two yard run to help the Bears increase their lead to 21-7 over the AMCATS.

Trailing at the start of the second half, the AMCATS couldn't catch a break giving up a field goal to the bears just under three minutes into the third quarter. Trailing by seventeen points, Russell took matters into his own hands running the ball for a twelve yard touchdown, cutting the Bears lead down to ten. Neither team would score for the remainder of the third quarter leaving the AMCATS at a deficit as they entered the final fifteen minutes of play.

Just under five minutes into the fourth quarter, the AMCATS would chip away at the Bears lead with a field goal from Ryan Kent, making it a 24-17 game. Just minutes later however the Bears would secure a two point team safety to pull further away from the AMCATS. Unable to fight back, the AMCATS would give up a touchdown with just over a minute left to play, resulting in a 33-17 win for the Bears.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Ryan Russell went 26-43 with 311 throwing yards and one touchdown as well as 26 rushing yards with his second touchdown.
  • Mark Johnson Morgan led the AMCATS receiving with eight attempts and 106 yards.
  • Ryan Kent went 1 for 1 on field goal attempts as well as going 2 for 2 on the extra point making him 100% on the day.

The AMCATS will be back in action on Saturday, October 14th where they will take on the Alfred State Pioneers on the road. Opening kickoff is at 12:00pm!
