Bulldogs Topped by Buffalo State, 41-7

FRANKLIN, Mass. – The Dean College football team fell to visiting Buffalo State, 41-7, at Dale Lippert Field Saturday afternoon.

Dean (1-2) hits the road for the first time next Saturday for a 5 p.m. kickoff at RPI. Buffalo State (1-2) will have next week off before hosting a conference game against Rochester on Sept. 30.

The Bengals scored the game's opening touchdown, seven minutes into the contest on a Cody Phillips (Lancaster, N.Y.) 5-yard run. The opportunity was set up by junior teammate Ale Wilson's (Bronx, N.Y.) 45-yard run on the first play of the drive.

In the early stages of the second quarter, the visitors doubled their lead when sophomore quarterback Noah Kimble (Depew, N.Y.) connected with freshman Tyler Mills (Fulton, N.Y.) for a 26-yard reception in the end zone.

Later in the second, after the Bengals recovered an onside kick, facing a fourth down, Wilson ran into a pile but bounced to the outside for a 36-yard dash into the end zone for a 21-0 lead.

With 27 seconds to play in the half, Wilson scored his second TD of the game with a 4-yard scamper heading into the break. Two plays earlier, Kimble hooked up with senior wideout Nicholas Bruce (Orchard Park, N.Y.) for a 29-yard play to bring the Bengals down to the seven yard line.

Wilson kept his impressive ground game going in the third with a 55-yard sprint to the end zone to put the Bengals in front 35-0.

Dean put its first points on the board with 12:29 left in the fourth on a 1-yard catch by senior tight end Jordan Mason (Stockbridge, Ga.) from sophomore quarterback Paul Hammond (Boston, Mass.). Sophomore running back Fontabian Donalson Jr. (San Antonio, Texas) had the big play on the drive with a 38-yard run.

Buffalo State answered on the next drive with a 26-yard completion by Amir Cameron (Brooklyn, N.Y.) to senior wide receiver Tariq Nelson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) for the 41-7 lead after a missed extra point.

Mason hauled in six catches and a touchdown to lead the Dean receivers. Donalson Jr. finished with 70 yards on the ground. Hammond went 7-of-15 for 38 yards and a TD, while Isaac Sisneros (Littleton, Colo.) was 4-of-6 for 42 yards.

Dean junior Kai Reeves (Boston, Mass.) finished with a game-high 11 tackles. Sophomore Andrew Liverman (Union City, N.J.) was next with nine tackles, including seven solo. Senior Austin Roy (Blackstone, Mass.) and senior JJ Carrion (New Bedford, Mass.) each forced a fumble, while senior Ryan Tigges (Burlington, Mass.) had an interception.

Wilson registered 199 rushing yards and three scores, while Phillips finished with 119 yards and a touchdown.
