Dean Defeated by Nichols, 70-7

FRANKLIN, Mass. – The Dean College football team was defeated by Nichols, 70-7, under the lights at Pisini Stadium on the grounds of Franklin High School.

Dean (1-1) will welcome Buffalo State to the Longley Athletic Complex next Saturday at noon. Nichols (1-1) travels to Coast Guard next Saturday.

The Bison got off to a hot start with a minute drive, five minutes into the game, capped off by a 32-yard pass by Xavier Powell to Jack Morvan. On the next Nichols possession, Powell busted through for a 34-yard TD run to put Nichols in front 14-0.

Nichols added two more rushing touchdowns in the first quarter, a 4-yard scamper by Zahir Booker and a 6-yard dash by Archie Killian, to take a 28-0 lead after 15 minutes.  

The visitors added three more scores in the second frame on a pair of passing TDs by Powell and a second Booker rushing touchdown.

In the third, Tiago Fernandes found some space for a 13-yard TD run. Booker later got loose for a 67-yard rushing TD for a 63-0 lead.

Dean got on the board early in the fourth when sophomore Paul Hammond (Boston, Mass.) found sophomore Josh Verde (Long Island, N.Y.) in the back of the end zone for a 9-yard TD connection.
Nichols added a 2-yard TD run by Killian with 8:51 left to play for the 70-7 final score.

Hammond went 8-12 for 59 yards and a TD in his Dean debut. First-year Aaron Wehmeyer (Denver, Colo.) had 45 yards on seven carries.

Sophomore Andrew Liverman (Union City, N.J.) led the Dean defense with a game best nine tackles. Reigning ECFC Defensive Player of the Week Austin Roy (Blackstone, Mass.) tallied five tackles and a sack.

The Bison rushed for 419 yards and seven touchdowns, while Powell finished 10-12 with 140 yards and three passing touchdowns.
