BANGOR, ME – Husson University football student-athletes Ellis Throckmorton, Stephan Dance and John Smith have been named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III North All-Star Teams. Throckmorton was a First Team selection while Dance and Smith were Second Team selections.
Throckmorton, a sophomore linebacker from Bangor, ME, was a First Team All-ECFC selection after leading the conference with 20.5 tackles-for-loss. He also led Husson and ranked fourth in the conference with 90 tackles and was sixth with 5.5 sacks. Throckmorton added an interception, broke up two passes and had a pair of fumble recoveries as well as a forced fumble.
Dance, a senior defensive back from New London, CT, was named ECFC Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-ECFC and to the New England Football Writers All-New England Team after anchoring a defense that gave up a league-low 18.4 points per game and 92.8 rush yards per game. The Eagles defense also tied for league-bests in sacks (27) and interceptions with 19. Dance finished the season with 74 tackles, good for 12th in the ECFC, five pass break ups and a pair of interceptions. He holds the school-record with 352 tackles.
Smith, a first year from Fayetteville, GA, was named ECFC Offensive Rookie of the Year, First Team All-ECFC and to the NEFW All-New England Team. He led the conference with a school-record 1,408 yards on the ground and also led the league with his 13 touchdowns. Smith finished the season with eight-straight 100-yard rushing games, including a pair of 200-yard contests, with a 264-yard game in the NCAA Playoff contest against MIT.
The 2014 Husson Eagles football team finished the season 8-2 and won its first ECFC championship and hosted its first NCAA Playoff contest.
