BANGOR, ME – John Smith (Fayetville, GA) rushed for over a 100 yards to lead the Husson University football team to a 42-20 win over Anna Maria on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles improve to 6-1 overall and 5-0 in Eastern Collegiate Football Conference play while Anna Maria falls to 0-8 overall and 0-5 in league play.
Anna Maria was up 14-0 before Joe Seccareccia (Bangor, ME) connected with Joe Farrell (Mattapan, MA) for a 57-yard touchdown pass at 10:09 of the second quarter.
Seccareccia hooked up with Farrell for the second time on the afternoon, tying the game at 14-14 with 6:50 left in the third quarter. Farrell made a fantastic catch in the back of the endzone, narrowly getting one foot down for the 21-yard reception.
The AMCATS answered back just 16-seconds later with a 60-yard touchdown pass but they would miss the extra point attempt, making the score 20-14.
The Eagles could not convert on their next drive but would force Anna Maria to go three and out, getting the ball back with 3:34 left on the clock in the third quarter.
Husson moved the ball 48-yards on two plays as Smith broke through the left side of the line for a 45-yard touchdown, his longest rush of the day, to give the Eagles a 21-20 lead.
Smith finished with 189 yards on 28 carries and three touchdowns and Shabashe McIntosh (Bridgeport, CT) rushed for 27 yards on two carries and a score. Farrell finished with three receptions for 85 yards and two scores to lead the Husson receivers.
Seccareccia finished 8-24 for 160 yards with two scores and two interceptions while Daniel Falson went 10-28 for 180 yards, two scores and three interceptions.
Ellis Throckmorton (Bangor, ME) led the Eagles defense with 11 total tackles in the game. Kenny Sweet (Portland, ME), Stevens Laguerre (Stamford, CT), andMarquis Jiminez (Hartford, CT) each had an interception in the win.
Husson had 392 yards of total offense while Anna Maria had 199.
The Eagles return to the field on November 8 for a 12:00pm game at Becker.
