OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Matt Rafus, Castleton
(Jr, RB - Hartland, Vt.)
Rafus was a workhorse for the Spartans, rushing 30 times for 134 yards while scoring both of the team's touchdowns in leading them to a 20-13 overtime victory against Plymouth St. The junior gave Castleton a 6-0 lead midway through the first quarter with a nine-yard jaunt. In overtime Rafus came through for the Spartans once again. He carried the ball on three of the team's first five plays of the extra session before finishing the drive with a two-yard score. Rafus also caught two passes for nine yards in the game.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Anthony Kaplan, Becker
(So, LB - Yorktown Heights, N.Y., 16)
Sophomore linebacker Anthony Kaplan recorded a game-high 11 tackles in Becker's opening-season loss to Fitchburg State on Friday night. Four of Kaplan's tackles went for a loss, including an impreesive three sacks of the quarterback.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Diogo Dietrich, Maritime (N.Y.)
(Jr, K - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)
The reigning ECFC Special teams Player of the Year, Dietrich set yet another record in Friday evening's loss to WIlliam Paterson, connecting on a 49-yard field goal, breaking the previous record of 47 yards that had stood for three seasons. Dietrich went on to kick another field goal of 28 yards later in the half and taked on a pair of PATs.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Jaleel Battle, Mount Ida
(Fr, RB - Buffalo, N.Y.)
In his first collegiate game, Battle scampered for 203 yards on 33 carries. He averaged 6.2 carries per rush and busted four rushes of 20-plus yards, including a 35-yard long. Battle also punched in a six-yard score for the first touchdown of his career, and caught a pass for ten yards, giving him 213 all purpose yards in the game.
