Maritime's Greg Caneparo, Chris Klass to Participate in D3 Senior Classic

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – A pair of seniors from the Maritime football team have been selected to play in the sixth annual D3 Senior Classic on Saturday, December 20 at 12:30 p.m. at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Senior running back Greg Caneparo (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet) and classmate cornerback Chris Klass (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet) were invited to the 2014 showcase that will feature the top NCAA Division III football players from throughout the country. In addition to the student-athletes that will be competing at the event, scouts from all of footballs top levels both at home and abroad will also be on hand.

In addition to the game, players who were invited to the game will also take part in National Scouting Showcase Luncheon on Friday between practices. The attendees will also be able to take in the Euro-American Challenge that will pit the USA vs. Europe in a matchup on Friday evening.

The following day will see the North and South teams respectively have walk-throughs at the stadium before the 12:30 kickoff on Saturday afternoon. The game will be streamed live on the Internet at http://www.playcdfl.com/

On the season, Caneparo was picked as an ECFC honorable mention at the end of the season for his role as a return specialist as well as a running back. As a return specialist he finished the season with 223 return yards on nine kickoff returns, which included a season-best 40-yard return against USMMA. In his role in the Privateer backfield, Caneparo was 10th in the league with 445 net rushing yards, including the fourth longest rush amongst ECFC backs this year for 71 yards.

Also a return-man, Klass set the Maritime single-season record for kick return yards in a season with 461 in 2014. He also had four Punt returns for 60 Yards on the year. On the season he had a year-best 83 return yards against eventual ECFC Champion Husson. Meanwhile as a defensive back, Klass had 28 tackles on the season, and also led the ECFC with six interceptions. He broke up seven passes in 2014 and also had two blocked kicks, which was good enough for second in the ECFC and 20th in all of Division III. For his career, Klass ended up first on Maritime's All-Time interceptions list with 11. On the season, he was a two-time ECFC Defensive Player of the Week, and also accomplishes a rare feat in the ECFC as a three-time All-Conference honoree.
