Dietrich Named First All-American in Maritime Football History

Full All-America Team Listing

SALEM, Va. – Junior placekicker Diogo Dietrich (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/DePaul Catholic) made history on Friday evening, as he was named the first-ever All-American in Maritime football history. Dietrich was named a member of the Third Team on the All-America listing as announced by D3football.com prior to the NCAA Division III National Championship game in Salem, Va.

The junior continues to add to his cabinet of awards, as he was named a member of the D3football.com All-Region Second Team earlier in September. He was also named the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference Special Teams Player of the Year following his superb field goal kicking in 2014, the second consecutive year he claimed top special teamer in the ECFC.

In addition to his athletic accolades, he was named as Maritime's lone SUNY Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete Award winner in 2013-14, following his academic and athletic excellence that academic year.

On the year, Dietrich led the team with 55 points on the season, as he converted 13 field goals and 16 extra points. He ranked eighth in all of NCAA DIII with 1.44 field goals per game and also 14th in Division III with an 81% success rate on field goals this season. Four of his 14 field goals were greater than 40 yards, including his program-record 49-yard field goal set earlier this season. He was also named ECFC Special Teams Player of the Week on four separate occasions.

Dietrich was the ECFC's lone representative on the All-America teams, and one of just three representatives from SUNY schools. Ryan Peebles of Cortland, and Marquis Artis of Buffalo State were picked to the 1st and 3rd Teams respectively at the return specialist and linebacker positions.

D3football.com also announced its individual awards; Joe Smith of Linfield was picked as the Coach of the Year, while Tyre Coleman of Hobart was named Defensive Player of the Year. Jake Kumerow of the national champion Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks was selected as the Offensive Player of the Year.
