OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Chris Bettano, Anna Maria
(Jr, RB - Tewksbury, Mass.)
Bettano had a breakthrough day for the AMCATS against Catholic as he rushed for a season-best 151 yards and three touchdowns. He scored his first touchdown on a 56-yard run to give the AMCATS a 6-0 lead. He also scored twice in the third quarter, first on a three-yard run and again on a 17-yard run. Bettano carried the ball 25 times in the game to average six yards per carry. He also added two kick returns for 21 yards, averaging 10.5 yards per return.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Derek McAdoo, Castleton
(Jr, DB - Essex, Vt.)
Derek McAdoo put forth one of the best performances of his Castleton career in the team's win over Alfred St. With the Spartans trailing 23-19 late in the third quarter, the junior read the quarterback and jumped in front of the intended receiver at the Alfred St. 33-yard line, taking the pass to the endzone to give Castleton a 26-23 lead. The team wouldn't trail again in the game. McAdoo added four tackles and two pass breakups in the contest as well.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kevin Alberque, Castleton
(Sr, WR - RIdgefield Park, N.Y.)
Alberque was all over the field for the Spartans in their 36-23 win over Alfred St. He scored a rushing and a receiving touchdown while recording 316 all-purpose yards on just 15 touches. The senior gave the Spartans an early lead with a 38-yard score on a reverse in the first quarter and added a 63-yard TD reception in the second. Alberque finished with 93 yards receiving, 77 kick return yards, 73 punt return yards and 73 rushing yards for an average of 21.1 yards every time he touched the ball. He currently leads the ECFC with 201.0 all-purpose yards per game.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Trai Weaver, Anna Maria
(Fr, WR - Waterbury, Conn.)
Weaver had a breakout game for the AMCATS this week, totaling 117 reception yards and catching his first collegiate touchdown reception on a 46-yard pass in the fourth quarter. Weaver totaled his 117 yards on five catches to average 23.4 yards per reception. Prior to Saturday's game he was averaging 54 yards per game, thereby doubling his offensive output this week.
