LEESBURG, Va. – Two Gallaudet University football student-athletes landed on the 2014 Beyond Sports Network (BSN) Division III Preseason All-America teams released by the online football website.
Junior fullback BJ Flores (Raymondville, Texas) was selected to the first team while senior linebacker Jaris Alleyne (Waldorf, Md.) was picked to the second team. This is Flores' second appearance on a BSN All-America team as he earned second team honors after the 2013 season. This is Alleyne's first BSN All-America honor.
Flores had his first 1,000-yard rushing season as he led the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) with 1,227 yards on 237 rushes, five touchdowns in 11 games played. The two-time All-ECFC first team offense fullback was second in the conference for yards per game (111.5) and fifth in yards per rush (5.2). Flores also earned 2013 ECAC Division III North All-Star first team honors last year.
Alleyne, a three-time All-ECFC linebacker, ranked fifth in the league for solo tackles (59), eighth in tackles (91) and tackles per game (8.3) during the 2013 campaign.
The two Gallaudet selections are part of 93 honorees from around the country. The teams were chosen based on returning All-Americans from the 2013 BSN All-America teams along with last year's statistics and game evaluations. No other ECFC teams had any selections.
The Bison (9-2 overall, 6-1 ECFC) started the 2013 season with a school best, 9-0 record, and won its first ECFC championship and made its NCAA tournament debut.
Gallaudet will open the season on Saturday, Sept. 6, under the lights at Hotchkiss Field as the Bison host Shenandoah University at 7 p.m.
