OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
BJ Flores, Gallaudet
(Jr, FB - Raymondville, Texas)
Flores led the Bison ground attack that compiled 418 rushing yards as he had 16 rushes for 140 yards (8.8 yards per carry average) and two touchdowns in a 53-26 win in the ECFC opener for the Bison against Anna Maria. Flores scored on a 10-yard run in the first quarter and ended the scoring in the fourth quarter with a 54-yard touchdown run.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Darren Callan, Castleton
(So, LB - Fairfield, Vt.)
Darren Callan was all over the field in a 24-0 shutout of Becker with eight tackles, two sacks, three tackles for a loss, one fumble recovery, one interception and two pass breakups. The sophomore personally ended three different Becker drives, beginning with a fumble recovery just three minutes into the game on the 47-yard line. In the second quarter the Hawks drove down to the Spartan 25-yard line and went for it on fourth down, but Callan recorded a sack for a loss of nine yards to give Castleton back the ball. Finally on the first play of the fourth quarter, the linebacker intercepted a pass at the Becker 34-yard line, setting up the team's final score.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tyler Rodgers, Mount Ida
(So, K/LB - Bridgewater, Mass.)
Rodgers provided all of the scoring needed on Saturday as Mount Ida picked up their first ECFC victory of the year. Rodgers ran in a fake field goal from two yards out for a touchdown and added the extra point as well, which proved to be the difference ina 7-6 win over SUNY Maritime. Rodgers also averaged 52.0 yards on his two kickoffs on the day.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
David Jones, Gallaudet
(So, RB - Washington, D.C.)
Jones had a breakout game for the Gallaudet Bison with 150 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns. The sophomore runningback ran the ball six times and gained a career best 101 yards and a touchdown. He also led the team with two receptions for a gain of 49 yards (long of 34) and one touchdown. Jones broke off a season long 42 yard run in the fourth quarter for his second touchdown in the game as GU led 47-26. He caught a 15-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter as GU built a 32-6 lead and led 38-14 at the half. Jones, in his first-year with GU, also returned three kick-offs for 49 yards (16.3 yards per return average).
