Paxton, MA - Anna Maria College announces that Stanley C. Vieira has accepted the position of Director of Athletics.  In this role, he will provide leadership, daily oversight, and management of the College’s growing athletic programs that continue to enhance AMC’s liberal arts education by promoting physical fitness, sportsmanship, and socialization.

“I am very excited about the opportunity to help lead the Anna Maria Athletic program. I truly look forward to working and building strong relationships with everyone at Anna Maria.” says Vieira. “My goal is to help get the AMC Athletic program to new heights and I look forward to collaborating with others on new ideas on how to get there. It looks like a wonderful and exciting time to be at AMC and I am honored and delighted to be a part of the Anna Maria family.”

In the past, he has served as the Athletic Director and Assistant Coach for Softball, Women’s Basketball and Women’s Soccer at Lesley University.  In this position he was responsible for all aspects of the University’s NCAA Division III athletic program, which was comprised of 12 varsity teams and clubs, as well as intramural and fitness activities for 1500 undergraduate students.  Mr. Vieira also helped to implement a ten-year strategic plan to grow the athletic programs at the institution.

Mr. Vieira is a graduate of UMass-Boston and received his Masters in Interdisciplinary Studies specializing in Sports and Society from Lesley University, Cambridge, MA. 

While at Lesley University, Vieira expanded the athletic staff to include full-time positions such as Sports Information Director, Recruitment Director and Equipment Manager. Also under his rein Lesley tripled the number of varsity athletes over a nine year period.

Prior to Lesley, Vieira was the Assistant Athletic Director and Assistant Coach for Women’s Soccer and Softball at Bunker Hill Community College. BHCC was featured as “The College of the Month” by Junior College Review in March 1999, as a direct result of Vieira’s public relations and promotion of the college. He also held the title of Sports Information Director and Assistant Coach at Community College of Rhode Island where he represented CCRI annually at the National Youth Sports Camps.

Vieira has a personal passion for baseball, he spent the summer of 1996 as the Assistant General Manager for the Rhode Island Tiger-Sharks and was a Marketing and Sales Associate for the Boston Red Sox from 1994-1996. Currently he is the Assistant to the Area Scout for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
