The seniors were named to the D3 Senior Classic preseason All-American team. Mount Ida's Nick Lynch, Castleton's Chad Bentz and Anna Maria's Blake Simpson earned honorable mention honors.
The
D3 Senior Classic is the premier post season all-star game
showcasing the talent of senior players on the NCAA Division III
football level. The third annual game will be held on the weekend
of December 10, 2011 at Salem Stadium, home of the NCAA D3 National
championship game, in Salem, Virginia.
During the past months, the selection committee members of the D3
Senior Classic organization have researched many outstanding and
deserving players from the graduating class of 2012, to be honored
as 2011 All-Americans.
“The announcement today of our preseason All-American team
honors the deserving, dedicated, and passionate players found on
this level of college football. We are proud to be associated with
D3 football", stated by Peter St. Lawrence, co-founder of the D3
Senior Classic game, during a press conference held 7/28 in New
York to announce the team.
The following list of players are all eligible to receive a game
invitation to the 2011 D3 Senior Classic. Invites will be mailed
beginning in September and up to the November 15, 2011 commitment
deadline. 80 players will participate in the 2011 game, represented
in a North vs South format. Last year the North won a wild 26-18
game. In Addition, the D3 Senior Classic website will post a player
"watch list" throughout the upcoming season. Nominations for
deserving players are welcome from all fans and followers of D3
football.
