Springfield, MA -- Seven different players scored touchdowns as the Springfield College football team defeated Husson University, 63-19, under sunny skies at Amos Alonzo Stagg Field Saturday afternoon. With the win, SC is now 2-0, while the Eagles fall to 0-2. Husson was beaten badly in the first half, but showed signs of improvement, coming out of the lockerroom at halftime and put up 13 points in the 3rd quarter.
Senior quarterback Josh Carter (Marlborough, MA) led the Pride with 106 yards rushing and two touchdowns. He also completed three passes in seven attempts for another two touchdowns. He ran for TDs of 10 and 20 yards. His TD passes were of 34 and 34 yards. The Pride totalled 561 yards of total offense, compared to 243 for the Eagles. SC ran for 460 yards, while Husson gained 18 yards on the ground. In the passing game, Husson had the better of it, 225 yards to 101.
Springfield averaged 7.0 yards per rush, and 7.3 yards per play. The Pride led the time of possession, 35:13 to 24:47.
For Husson, the leading rusher was junior RB Byron Jackson (Bridgeport, CT) with 35 yards on seven carries. Junior quarterback Kash Keezer (Veazie, ME) completed 15 passes in 34 attempts for 225 yards and two TDs. Freshman WR Lamar Richards(Conway, SC) caught seven passes for 76 yards to lead all receivers.
Defensively, Springfield was led by the duo of senior FS James Kikel (Glendale, NY) and junior LB Kevin Shields (Melville, NY) with six tackles and one interception each. Senior CB Marc Riccio (New Britain, CT) had the third interception.
Husson was led by freshman LB Stephan Dance (New London, CT) with a game-high 12 tackles, including nine solos. Sophomore LB Ben Dalecki (So. Berwick, ME) finished with eight tackles, followed by his older brother, senior DL Chris Dalecki (So. Berwick, ME.) with seven stops.
The Eagles return home to Bangor next weekend when they host the Wolves of Wesley College (DE) for a 1:00 pm start on Saturday.
