CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Twenty‐nine players representing 20 different teams have been named to the 2019 New England Football Writers College Division All‐New England Team. Two Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) student-athletes in Shannon Moxey of Dean College and Chris Rice of Castleton University were among the honorees.
The Division II Northeast‐10 Conference Led the way with nine selections. The Commonwealth Coast Conference had eight players honored. Four players were selected by from the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference. The New England Small College Athletic Conference and New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference had three selections each, while the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference placed two players on the team.
The selection is the second straight for Moxey who also earned the accolades last season as a defensive back. A first team All-ECFC selection, he tied for the conference lead in interceptions with four on the season. He also recorded six pass break-ups and a block for the Bulldogs defense. The senior also contributed 60 tackles and four tackles for loss this season.
Rice, the 2019 ECFC Defensive Player of the Year, saw more accolades pour in after an impressive junior season for the Spartans. Rice headlined a strong Spartan front-seven, amassing 50 tackles, including 18 for a loss which led the ECFC. He also added two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, a blocked kick, a pass breakup and a 28-yard interception return for a touchdown. He finished his junior season as Castleton's all-time leader in career sacks (15) and set a program single season record with 7.0 sacks.
The team will be honored at the New England Football Writers Captains and Awards Banquet on Thursday, December 12, at Rosaria Restaurant and Function Facility in Saugus, Mass.
