MARSHFIELD, Mass. - Maritime College and Dean College saw their football seasons come to an end this weekend as they each fell in their respective postseason contests. Maritime lost to nationally-ranked Salisbury University in the first round of the NCAA Division III Football Championship while Dean succumbed to Endicott College in the New England Bowl.
In NCAA action, Salisbury jumped out to a 42-0 lead in the first quarter and led 63-0 at the half. The Privateers, the automatic qualifier from the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC), were held to 71 yards of total offense, and end the season at 5-6 (3-2). This was their fourth consecutive season playing postseason football, and first time competing in the NCAA Tournament since 2010.
Senior captains Justin Snuffer (Maple Shade, N.J./Maple Shade) and Liam Bailey (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) combined for 29 tackles on the day. Snuffer ends his career as second all-time in interceptions, as well as first all-time in interception return yards. Bailey will leave the program as first all-time in assisted tackles, and a three-time ECFC All-Conference honoree.
Joseph Gagliardi (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North), recently named ECFC Special Teams Player of the Year, finished the game with 11 punts for a season-high 381 yards, including two inside the twenty-yard line. With today's performance, Gagliardi now holds the single-season record for punt yards with 2384.
Quarterback Jack Lynn (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Chaminade) finished with 47 yards, while Christian Schiavone (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) added 41 yards on the ground. Frank Vano (Babylon, N.Y./Babylon) chipped in with seven tackles, while Jabari Corsfield (Ozone Park, N.Y./Jamaica) finished with five tackles.
In the Bowl game, Dean and Endicott battled early - but the Gulls took a 24-10 lead heading into half time and never looked back.
After Endicott took an early 7-0 lead, the Bulldogs answered back with a Jacob Bisson (Barrington, N.H.) 26-yard field goal. Dean then marched 70 yards on 14 plays and Terrell Watts (New Haven, Conn.) raced into the endzone from seven yards out to give the Bulldogs a 10-7 lead midway through the second quarter.
The Gulls quickly regained momentum by scoring 17 points in the quarter's final seven plus minutes to storm into halftime ahead, 24-10. Kalosky threw two touchdowns in the third quarter and another in the fourth before Greg Ruff punched in the game's final score on a six-yard run with a little more than six minutes remaining in the game.
Picked to finish second in the ECFC in the preseason coaches' poll, the Bulldogs won the conference outright. While they will lose three senior defensive starters – Gene Baisden, Jr. (Tampa, Fla.), Shamis Henry (Flemington, N.J.) and Shannon Moxey (Austell, Ga.) – a host of returners are expected to be back in 2020 beginning with offensive stars, Breaux, Reid and Watts.
