MARSHFIELD, Mass. - Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) champions, Husson University, will face Springfield College in the first round of the 2017 NCAA Division III Football Championship on Saturday, November 18 at 12 p.m.
The Eagles (9-1, 7-0 ECFC) earned the ECFC's automatic-qualification after going undefeated in conference play. They will travel to Springfield College (10-0, 7-0 NEWMAC) and face an undefeated Pride squad that captured a Pool B bid to the tournament.
Husson led the way in the ECFC, averaging a league-best 41.3 PPG along with 59 touchdowns. The Eagles also led the league in rushing yards with 2,732 and ranked third with 1,740 passing yards to average 447.2 yards/game. Husson's 273.2 rushing yards/game are best for 13th in the nation.
The Eagles also did their job on defense, leading the league in nearly every team defensive category. Their 11.2 points/game, 217.4 yards/game, 77.4 rushing/game and 17 interceptions were all league-highs. The program also ranks second national in turnover margin (1.70).
The NCAA DIII Football Tournament kicks off with first round action on November 18, with all games slated to kickoff at 12 p.m., and continues over the course of four weekends, culminating with crowning a champion at the Stagg Bowl on Friday, December 15.
