OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jimmy Gardner, Gallaudet
University
(Senior, QB - St. Augustine, Fla./Florida School for the Deaf and
Blind)
Gardner rushed for a career-high 130 yards and scored three
touchdowns to lead Gallaudet University to a 34-7 victory on the
road against Hiram College. Gardner scored the first touchdown of
the game as the Bison led 7-0 at the half. In the fourth quarter,
Gardner had two touchdowns to put the game away for the Buff and
Blue including a 43-yard rushing touchdown.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Reza Afsarmanesh, Norwich
University
(Sr. , DE - Sunrise, Fla.)
Afsarmanesh led the Norwich defense against St. Lawrence on
Saturday with a game-high 13 tackles and a game-best 2.0
quarterback sacks. The senior defensive end added a team-high 3.5
tackles-for-loss and led a Norwich defense that limited the Saints
to 202 yards of total offense and just 70 rushing yards.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Madison Leary, Maritime College
(Soph., K/P/WR - Tavares, FL/Tavares )
Leary took over the field goal job this week and kicked the first
three-pointer of the year for the Privateers, a 25-yarder that put
the Privateers on the board in the third quarter. On three
kickoffs, the sophomore averaged 57 yards, including one touchback.
The two returns were both caught within the 20-yard line and only
returned an average of 14 yards due to exceptional directional
kicking.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Brandon Bergeron, Castleton State
College
(Fr., SS - Hartford, VT)
Bergeron had a solid week at safety, leading the Spartan defense
in Saturday's loss at Utica. The freshman recorded nine tackles and
provided Castleton's only touchdown on a 21-yard interception
return.
