2023 ECFC Weekly Release — Week #6

KILLINGWORTH, Conn. — The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) has released its weekly award winners for games played through Saturday, October 7.

The following student-athletes have been honored for their standout performances.


CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Jake Palmer (Albany, N.Y.), Alfred State, Sr., RB
Brandon Washington (Citronelle, Ala.), Gallaudet, Jr., QB


PALMER

  • Rushed for an ECFC season-best 211 yards (31 attempts, 6.8 average) and two touchdowns
  • Also hauled in three receptions for 28 yards and one score
  • His 211 rushing yards rank third all-time for his career (271 personal best)
  • Broke the game open late by giving the Pioneers leads of 24-15 (3rd, 1:05), 31-15 (4th, 14:56), and 38-15 (4th, 3:12) in the eventual home victory over Lyon (41-15)

WASHINGTON

  • Compiled 124 yards and three rushing touchdowns on 13 attempts (9.5 average)
  • Used an AT&T 5G Helmet in Gallaudet's 34-20 win over Hilbert, becoming the first player to use a heads-up device in a football game (play selected by coach showed up in his helmet on an eye lens)
  • Had rushing touchdowns of 63 yards (1st, 11:45, 7-7), 18 yards (2nd, 8:10, 14-10), and one yard (4th, 9:23, 28-13)
  • Washington's three rushing touchdowns on Saturday were a season-high

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Rylie Van Fleet (Endwell, N.Y.), Alfred State, Sr., S
  • Registered seven tackles (all solo) 
  • Also logged two tackles for a loss (14 yards), one interception, and one pass breakup
  • Leads the ECFC with four interceptions
  • His seven solo tackles tied his career-high

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Maxwell DeMare (Batavia, N.Y.), Alfred State, Fy., K
  • Converted a pair of field goals including a career-best 43-yarder
  • Made all five of his extra point attempts to finish the contest with 11 points total
  • Set career highs for most field goals attempted, field goals made, longest field goal, most extra points, and most total points
  • Registered the longest field goal made (43) and compiled the most points by a kicker (11, tied) in the NCAA Era (2013-current) for Alfred State

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Noah Currier (Oakfield, N.Y.), Alfred State, Fy., RB
  • Produced 132 all-purpose yards
  • His 94-yard kickoff return touchdown (ECFC long by nearly 20 yards) gave the Pioneers the lead for good against Lyon (2nd, 11:38, 17-15)
  • Notched 32 yards rushing on two attempts
  • Caught two passes

About the ECFC

The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference was formed in the spring of 2009 as an NCAA Division III single-sport football conference. The conference, named after the geographic location of the institutions began competition in the fall of 2009.

Current members are Alfred State College (Alfred, NY), Anna Maria College (Worcester, MA), Dean College (Franklin, MA), Gallaudet University (Washington, D.C.), and Vermont State Castleton (Castleton, VT.)

The mission of the conference is to:

  1. Promote intercollegiate varsity football as an integral part of the educational experience of all competitors. 
  2. Establish a conference schedule and determine a conference championship that will represent the conference as the automatic qualifier to the NCAA national tournament.
  3. Adopt sportsmanship, fair play, moral integrity, and competitive excellence as cornerstones of the conference.
