KILLINGWORTH, Conn. — The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) has released its weekly award winners for games played through Saturday, September 16.
The following student-athletes have been honored for their standout performances.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Ryan Russell (West Springfield, Mass.), Anna Maria, Jr., QB
- Russell factored into three touchdowns to lead Anna Maria past Mass. Maritime, 37-30
- Went 27-for-37 passing with 302 yards and two touchdowns
- Scored once on the ground, totaling 63 yards on eight carries
- His 27 completions were a season-high
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kevin McDonough (Concord, N.H.), Vermont State Castleton, Jr. LB
- Compiled a team-high 15 tackles (5 solo) for the Spartans
- Tied his career-high for tackles in the contest
- Also notched one sack, one tackle for a loss, and one fumble recovery
- His 15 tackles are the most by an ECFC student-athlete this season
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jonathon Waterman (Redding, Calif.), Gallaudet, Sr., K/P
- Converted a league-best 43-yard field goal and went 1-for-1 on his extra-point attempts against UNE
- Recorded three punts for 93 yards (31.0 average)
- His three punts resulted in a fair catch, a touchback, and the other landing inside the 20
- Had two kickoffs for 98 yards (49.0 average, one touchback)
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Tyler Buxton (Middlebury, Vt.), Vermont State Castleton, Jr., DB
- Registered a career-high eight tackles (four solo)
- Tallied one sack, two tackles for a loss, and his first career interception
- The pick came in the end zone to prevent Norwich from scoring and keeping the game tied at 7-7 headed into halftime
- Has increased his tackles total every week this season

About the ECFC
The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference was formed in the spring of 2009 as an NCAA Division III single-sport football conference. The conference, named after the geographic location of the institutions began competition in the fall of 2009.
Current members are Alfred State College (Alfred, NY), Anna Maria College (Worcester, MA), Dean College (Franklin, MA), Gallaudet University (Washington, D.C.), and Vermont State Castleton (Castleton, VT.)
The mission of the conference is to:
- Promote intercollegiate varsity football as an integral part of the educational experience of all competitors.
- Establish a conference schedule and determine a conference championship that will represent the conference as the automatic qualifier to the NCAA national tournament.
- Adopt sportsmanship, fair play, moral integrity, and competitive excellence as cornerstones of the conference.
