2023 ECFC Weekly Release — Week #5

KILLINGWORTH, Conn. — The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) has released its weekly award winners for games played through Saturday, September 30.

The following student-athletes have been honored for their standout performances.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Dre'Vaughn Mackall (Prince Frederick, Md.), Gallaudet, Jr., FB
  • Rushed for an ECFC season-best and career-high 158 yards against Nichols
  • Scored twice on 25 rushing attempts (6.3 average, 51 long)
  • His first touchdown gave Gallaudet a 7-0 lead at 11:12 of the first, while his second made it a 34-28 deficit at 11:24 of the third
  • Tied his career-high for rushing touchdowns

CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Carter Johnson (McCall, Idaho), Gallaudet, So., DB
Dawson Pierson (Warminster, Pa.), Castleton, Sr., DB


JOHNSON

  • Notched 11 tackles (7 solo, 1.5 TFL) for the Bison
  • Also had one pass breakup and blocked a punt, which led to the first score in the contest
  • Set career-highs for tackles tackles for a loss
  • Registered his first career block

PIERSON

  • Compiled seven tackles (5 solo), one forced fumble, and an interception against UNE
  • His seven stops tied his season-high
  • Forced his first career fumble
  • Picked off his second career pass

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Rylie Van Fleet (Endwell, N.Y.), Alfred State, Sr., S
  • Tallied six punts for 231 yards (38.5 average)
  • Three of his punts landed inside the opponent's 20-yard line, while the three others were fair caught
  • On the other end, Van Fleet returned one punt for 19 yards and made two tackles
  • Season-high three punts inside the 20-yard line

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Dy'riece Smith (Boston, Mass.), Dean, Fr., WR
  • Caught four passes for 71 yards and two scores 
  • Set career-highs for receiving yards and touchdowns
  • His career-long 33-yard TD catch gave Dean a 7-6 lead in the first quarter (11:48)
  • Averaged 17.8 yards per catch

About the ECFC

The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference was formed in the spring of 2009 as an NCAA Division III single-sport football conference. The conference, named after the geographic location of the institutions began competition in the fall of 2009.

Current members are Alfred State College (Alfred, NY), Anna Maria College (Worcester, MA), Dean College (Franklin, MA), Gallaudet University (Washington, D.C.), and Vermont State Castleton (Castleton, VT.)

The mission of the conference is to:

  1. Promote intercollegiate varsity football as an integral part of the educational experience of all competitors. 
  2. Establish a conference schedule and determine a conference championship that will represent the conference as the automatic qualifier to the NCAA national tournament.
  3. Adopt sportsmanship, fair play, moral integrity, and competitive excellence as cornerstones of the conference.
