2023 ECFC Weekly Release — Week #2

KILLINGWORTH, Conn. — The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) has released its weekly award winners for games played through Saturday, September 9.

The following student-athletes have been honored for their standout performances.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Christian Keeling (East Taunton, Mass.), Vermont State Castleton, Jr., RB
  • Punched home two touchdowns to clinch the win for the Spartans over Fitchburg State
  • His first touchdown of the day went 57 yards (second-longest rush in program history)
  • Finished with 95 yards rushing on 10 carries (9.5 average)
  • Also hauled in two receptions

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kevin McDonough (Concord, N.H.), Vermont State Castleton, Jr., LB
  • Led the Spartans in tackles with 10 total (5 solo, 5 assisted) in their 32-3 victory against the Falcons
  • Registered 0.5 sacks and 2.5 tackles for a loss (10 yards total)
  • Notched his first double-digit tackle performance of the season
  • Part of a defense that held Fitchburg State to only 88 yards of offense (second fewest allowed single-game program history

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Noah Crossman (North Chittenden, Vt.), Vermont State Castleton, 5th Year, K/P
  • Compiled six points, including a 22-yard field goal and three extra points (3/3)
  • Notched 357 yards on six kickoffs for an average of 59.5 yards
  • Had two punts total for 66 yards (33.0 average), with one landing inside the Falcons' 20-yard line
  • His six points were a season-high

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Tyler Buxton (Middlebury, Vt.), Vermont State Castleton, Jr., DB
  • Produced seven tackles (six solo)
  • Had one sack and three tackles for a loss of four yards
  • His seven tackles were a season-high
  • Additionally, his three tackles for a loss were a season-high

About the ECFC

The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference was formed in the spring of 2009 as an NCAA Division III single-sport football conference. The conference, named after the geographic location of the institutions began competition in the fall of 2009.

Current members are Alfred State College (Alfred, NY), Anna Maria College (Worcester, MA), Dean College (Franklin, MA), Gallaudet University (Washington, D.C.), and Vermont State Castleton (Castleton, VT.)

The mission of the conference is to:

  1. Promote intercollegiate varsity football as an integral part of the educational experience of all competitors. 
  2. Establish a conference schedule and determine a conference championship that will represent the conference as the automatic qualifier to the NCAA national tournament.
  3. Adopt sportsmanship, fair play, moral integrity, and competitive excellence as cornerstones of the conference.
