MARSHFIELD, Mass. – The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) weekly awards were announced for games through Sunday, October 24th. Anna Maria swept the conference honors this week with their win over Dean College on Saturday. Alex Cohen (Plymouth, Mass.) earned Offensive Player of the Week while Sam Jakana (Coto De Caza, Calif.) took home Defensive Player of the Week. Deandre Wallace (Waterbury, Conn.) earned Rooke of the Week while teammate Ryan Kent (Marlton, N.J.) was named Special Teams Player of the Week.
Offensive Player of the Week
Alex Cohen – Anna Maria
(Senior, QB – Plymouth, Mass.)
Cohen threw for five touchdowns for the second time this season while rushing for a sixth during Anna Maria’s 45-32 win at Dean College on Saturday during AMC’s Homecoming Weekend, leading the AMCATS to their best start in program history at 5-1. Overall, Cohen went 24-for-40 for a career-high 451 yards passing and 39 yards rushing. Cohen's passing total destroyed the previous single-game total in AMCAT history, that was set on November 10, 2012 by former Anna Maria great Santino Simone with 349 passing yards. Through six games, Cohen has thrown for 1865 yards and 17 touchdowns.
Defensive Player of the Week
Sam Jakana – Anna Maria
(Sophomore, LB – Coto De Caza, Calif.)
Jakana led the Anna Maria defense in a win over Dean on Saturday as the AMCATS went to 5-1 for the first time in school history. The rookie dominated the Bulldog offense, leading the AMCATS with 11 tackles, 2.5 sacks and a pass breakup behind the line of scrimmage.
Rookie of the Week
Deandre Wallace – Anna Maria College
(Sophomore, WR – Waterbury, Conn.)
Wallace continued his dominant rookie season in Anna Maria's 45-32 win over Dean on Saturday, pulling in eight receptions for 173 yards, both career-highs - and two touchdowns. His 75-yard touchdown catch with 10:21 to go in the second quarter gave the AMCATS a 28-7 lead and they never looked back. For his efforts, Wallace was named Homecoming Game Offensive Most Valuable Player. As of press time, Wallace was ranked sixth in the nation in yards per reception.
Special Teams Player of the Week
Ryan Kent – Anna Maria College
(Sophomore, K – Marlton, N.J.)
Kent was perfect for Anna Maria on Saturday in the AMCATS 45-32 win over the Bulldogs of Dean, making one field goal and going 6-for-6 on extra points. At press time, the rookie was leading the ECFC in field goal percentage at 83.3%.
