MARSHFIELD, Mass. – The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) weekly awards were announced for games through Sunday, November 7th. Anna Maria’s Justin McMillian (Middletown, Conn.) earned Offensive Player of the Week while Gallaudet’s Jacob Hartman (Petersburg, W. Va.) took home Defensive Player of the Week. Castleton’s Evan Smith (Butler, N.J.) earned Rookie of the Week honors and Joseph Gagliardi (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) was named Special Teams Player of the Week.
Offensive Player of the Week
Justin McMillian – Anna Maria College
(Senior, WR – Middletown, Conn.)
McMillan had the game of his career on Saturday against the Bison of Gallaudet, catching eight passes for 211 yards and three touchdowns, all single-games career-highs. McMillian's receiving yardage total are the second-most in school history for a single game.
Defensive Player of the Week
Jacob Hartman – Gallaudet University
(Freshman, LB – Petersburg, W. Va.)
Hartman tied a career-high with 10 tackles (seven solo) last Saturday in a 37-21 loss at Anna Maria College. The freshman linebacker picked off AMC quarterback Jeff Cohen in the second quarter and returned it 66 yards for the touchdown as the Bison took a 21-13 lead into halftime. Hartman finished with 2.5 tackles for a loss of nine yards, one sack for a loss of seven yards and recovered a fumble in the first quarter. All statistical numbers set new single game career-highs or tie career-highs for Hartman.
Rookie of the Week
Evan Smith – Castleton University
(Sophomore, QB – Butler, N.J.)
Smith had a stellar game for Castleton after being inserted late in the first quarter when the starter departed due to injury. The sophomore completed 20-of-36 passes for 301 yards and three scores. It was the first 300-yard passing game for the Spartans this season, and his second time throwing for three touchdowns with no interceptions in a single game. He connected with Castleton receivers on touchdowns of 25, 65 and 33 yards.
Special Teams Player of the Week
Joseph Gagliardi – Maritime (N.Y.)
(Sophomore, K/FS – Ronkonkoma, N.Y.)
Gagliardi kicked the game-winning 21-yard field goal as time expired in Maritime's 24-21 victory over Keystone. He also went a perfect 3-for-3 on extra point attempts, and had five punts for 181 yards, pinning Keystone inside the 20 three times.
